What To Expect
Step 1
Please feel free to email me with a brief overview of the support you’re looking for. We can then arrange a free 15-minute telephone call to get to know each other a little better and to discuss how I may be able to help. If I feel that I’m not the best person to support you, I’ll be happy to talk with you about other options and help you consider where you might find the most appropriate support.
Step 2
If we feel that I am the right person to support you, we will then arrange a mutually convenient time for a first appointment. The first couple of sessions will form an assessment, during which we will explore your concerns and what you would like to be different.
If your concerns relate to your child, you may prefer to attend the first appointment on your own so that we can talk openly about your worries. If your child would like to attend, we can meet together, or I can meet with them individually, whatever feels most comfortable for you all.
Step 3
During the assessment session(s), we will develop a shared understanding of your difficulties, often referred to as a formulation. This helps us to decide on the most appropriate approach and type of intervention to support you. We will then begin this work together, with regular reviews to reflect on progress and ensure the support continues to meet your needs.
Confidentiality
Everything we discuss will remain confidential. The only exception is if I have concerns about your safety, your child’s safety, or the safety of someone else. In these situations, I have a duty of care to share relevant information with appropriate professionals in order to ensure that the right support is put in place. Unless there is a specific reason not to, I will always aim to discuss this with you first.
I also have regular clinical supervision with another Clinical Psychologist. Supervision provides an opportunity to reflect on my work and helps ensure that I am offering the highest standard of care. Any information shared in supervision is fully anonymised, and no personal identifying details are disclosed.
